Call for Applied Track Papers

Aims and Scope

The IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM) has established itself as the world’s premier conference in data mining. The conference covers all aspects of data mining, including algorithms, software, systems, and applications. In ICDM 2026 to be held in Shenyang China, ICDM will host an Applied Track in addition to the regular Research Track. A paper should either be submitted to the Research Track or the Applied Track but not both.

Topics of Interest

The Applied track solicits papers on applications of data mining, which is considered to also include data science and machine learning. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Deployed systems, industrial or academic, that implement novel applications of data mining, data analytics, data science, and applied machine learning in the real world.

  • Interdisciplinary and novel applications of data mining, including but not limited to social sciences, physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, climate science, web, marketing, finance, precision medicine, health informatics, and other domains.

  • New datasets or benchmarks that promote research and evaluation in new or existing data mining problems.

  • Comprehensive experimental analysis of data mining and data science algorithms, data structures, and systems that are of wide interest, providing new fundamental insights into the strengths and weaknesses of existing methods.

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original papers that have not been published elsewhere and are not currently under consideration for another journal, conference, or workshop.

Paper submissions should be limited to a maximum of ten (10) pages in the IEEE 2-column format (https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html), including the bibliography and any appendices. Submissions longer than 10 pages will be rejected without review. Submissions are single-blind. All submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee based on technical quality, relevance to the scope of the conference, originality, significance, and clarity. There is no separate abstract submission deadline, and submissions are not categorized as long or short papers at the time of submission. After acceptance, papers will be designated as Regular or Short papers, with limits of ten pages. The following sections provide further information for authors.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the online submission system:[TBD]. Email submissions are not accepted.

Important Dates

  • Paper submission: June 6, 2026

  • Notification to authors: August 16, 2026

  • Camera ready: September 16, 2026

All submission deadlines are end-of-day in the Anywhere on Earth (AoE) time zone.

Reproducibility Guidelines

Authors must complete a reproducibility checklist (link) at the time of paper submission. These responses will become part of each submission and will be shared with area chairs and reviewers to aid in the evaluation process. Authors are encouraged to

  • Include detailed technical information, such as proofs, assumptions, and algorithm pseudocode.

  • Provide comprehensive experimental methodology, empirical evaluations, and results.

  • Report results on publicly available datasets whenever possible.

  • Make code and data publicly available when feasible.

Reviewers will assess the reproducibility of the reported results, which will influence final decisions about each paper.

Best Paper Awards

Awards will be conferred at the conference to the authors of the best paper(s).

Attendance

ICDM is a premier forum for presenting and discussing current research in data mining. At least one author of each accepted paper must complete the conference registration and present the paper at the conference for it to be included in the proceedings and program. In cases where an author is unable to attend the conference in person due to visa issues, a pre-recorded video presentation is allowed. The presenting author must still register for the conference.
